YAKIRA

Yakira’s collection of shard jewelry is expertly crafted from sterling silver and set with old Chinese porcelain shards found on Indonesia’s coast.

From the Han Dynasty (more than 2000 years ago) through the end of the Qing Dynasty (in 1911), there was a long history of Maritime Trade. Chinese traders brought porcelain, silk, and precious metals to trade with spices.

Sailing from China to Southeast Asia was a long journey, and the weather was often challenging. Due to monsoons, strong winds, and unpredictable sea conditions, many ships are unable to reach their intended port of destination. Many ships were wrecked and sunk, carrying their precious cargo into the depths of the sea. Since Dutch Colonial times, many porcelain shards have been found on the coast of Northern and Western Indonesia, which is a sign of the ships that drowned along their journey.

Yakira transforms these shards into handmade silver jewelry. In our workshops, we employ Indonesian silversmithing techniques that are centuries old to craft jewelry by hand. Each shard has distinct symbols that have different meanings. In general, they bear symbols of prosperity and good luck.

Yakira carefully picked and utilized the highest quality shards, with a focus on those that are meticulously decorated with flowers, animals, and figure designs.

We seek to provide only the best quality shards in our jewelry and each piece is accompanied with a Letter of Guarantee stating that the shard is genuine and of the period.
